What happened

OpenAI, Microsoft, and Amazon are among the first major companies to sign the EU’s voluntary AI Pact, joining nearly 100 others in a groundbreaking effort to prepare for the upcoming AI Act, the world’s first legal framework regulating AI based on its risk level.

Launched on September 25th, the AI Pact encourages businesses to take proactive steps, including promoting AI literacy, ensuring human oversight, and labelling AI-generated content like deepfakes.

While big names like Meta are still missing from the list, the European Commission expects more companies to join as the initiative grows.

This Pact gives companies the chance to shape AI’s future by preparing for compliance before the law fully kicks in.

Why it matters

With global AI leaders signing on, the AI Pact is a bold move towards creating safer, more transparent AI while giving companies a head start in adapting to Europe’s groundbreaking regulations.
