On November 16, X, formerly known as Twitter, implemented controversial updates to its Terms of Service, sparking a wave of user departures. The new terms grant the platform the right to analyze users’ posts, photos, and videos, including content from private accounts, to train its AI bot, Grok.
Users will not receive compensation for their content, which can be adapted, modified, or shared with other organizations.
The platform’s terms also warn users about exposure to potentially harmful or misleading content and affirm the company’s discretion to remove users or content without providing a specific reason. Additionally, X introduced a $15,000 penalty for users who exceed a million tweets viewed daily and limited legal disputes to courts in Texas, barring class-action lawsuits.
The changes have triggered backlash from users and critics, citing concerns over data privacy, content ownership, and Musk’s broader influence on the platform.
